Peruvian banks provide ATM machines which accept most credit cards. Tourist can use travelers checks or US currency in the majority of shops and restaurants. Your own bank or travel agent can obtain Nuevo Sol, which is the currency for Peru, prior to your journey.

Peruvian shop are a dream, if you are looking for quality hand-made jewelry and other copper, silver and gold items. Visitors can find some really exceptionally well made textile products to take home. Shopping in the markets and on the streets allows tourists to try out their bartering skills as there is usually room for manoeuvre on the price. However, when it comes to restaurants and the normal shops, prices are fixed.

Peru is a large country with something for everyone. The easiest and quickest way to get around is to use internal flights. Public buses are the cheapest options for traveling any distance over the country and passengers will have to show their passports at police check-points on their trip. Local buses are great and reasonably cheap for getting around the towns and cities, but they are slow and very busy. If you want to travel using a taxi, agree a price before setting out and be prepared to haggle.

The diverse climate and terrain means that visitors should come prepared for all eventualities. A mixture of warm and light clothing, as well as appropriate footwear and sunscreen is essential. Visitors are also advised to ensure they have the necessary inoculations before travelling to Peru. Travelers should ensure that they carry sufficient supplies of personal medicine to last for the duration of their trip.
