How to Enjoy Your Vacation

By Alan Penick

I am the type of person who loves to travel. When I was a kid, my family and I went to a bunch of neat places for vacation. Many times we would go down south to try some deep sea fishing. Other times we would go on a hiking trip, or maybe even camping. It didn't matter though, because we had a great time no matter what.

Now that I have a family of my own, I want to continue those same traditions. I believe that kids are indoors too much these days you know. I don't want to be like that and I do not want my family to be like that either. I truly think it makes people appreciate life more if they can see the world a bit.

Last year we went to Lake Tahoe for a long week. I don't know if you've been there or not, but if not you owe it to yourself to check it out. You simply can't believe how clear the lake is. Also, you will freak out a bit when you feel the cold water on your feet.

We decided to try and avoid staying in a hotel this trip though. Hotels are never much fun, but in Tahoe they are worse. The thing is, you smell like smoke the whole time because the gamers like to smoke a lot. The other thing is that you pay a fortune to eat in the restaurants in there.

My plan was simple enough however. I did some searching and ended up finding some awesome rental houses for us to stay in. I was fearful that I would end up spending more money in a rental house, but I was quite wrong. In fact, I ended up saving a few hundred dollars by finding a great rental place for us to stay in.

We also managed to save a lot of money on our eating. Since we had a full kitchen, all we had to do was go to the store to buy some food and we were set. It was great.

I believe we may head back this coming winter as well. I thought that trying out some snow skiing would be a blast. I hate cold weather, but I know that skiing equipment keeps you really warm, and we would have a fireplace to use too.
