Every major tourist attraction city in America has some type of zoo or botanical garden facility. It's a family-friendly and informative experience for people of all ages, and Las Vegas is no exception. Although Vegas' zoo has a fancy name, the Southern Nevada Zoological-Botanical Park, it's still a basic zoo and operates as a nonprofit organization.
Siegfried & Roy's SECRET GARDEN and DOLPHIN HABITAT is not a run-of-the-mill animal park with scientists and experts on call to answer kid's most inquisitive and in-depth questions regarding their amazing resident white lions, white tigers, panthers, leopards, and dolphins housed in a close replica of their natural habitat. Their "Be a Trainer for a Day" Program for the kids is available for those who are more serious in this pursuit. Admission for kids 4-12 years of age is about USD 15. Below this age is free.
From the outside, the zoo is very whimsical and even a bit outdated in terms of everything that surrounds it. The low faded walls are painted yellow and green, and the actual "Zoo" sign looks like something from a 1960s casino on The Strip. The inside of the facility is kept nicer, at least, and the animals are cared for by well-trained staff.

Of course, everything in Vegas is a business. Even though the zoo is a nonprofit facility, all guests still have to pay an admission fee. And you'll also find a gift shop in the zoo with an assortment of items, and even a gem exhibit area featuring some of the crystals from the area and other gems from around the world.
MGM GRAND - LION HABITAT is where the famous roaring lions are of which MGM is known for. Viewable from a glass partition, the lions are reared in a 8.5-acre ranch 12 miles away from MGM. The exhibit is free, compliments of MGM. CSI: The Experience is for the detective and crime-solver enthusiasts and it portrays interactive challenges, based on the hit TV show CSI, that features 3 murders, 15 lab stations, 15 suspects and 3 killers. Recommended for 12 years old and up. Younger kids need to be accompanied by adults. Admission rates are USD 28 and USD 21, respectively.
There are also a slew of snakes and other poisonous reptiles that are native to Nevada, including rattlesnakes and scorpions (not a reptile). There is also a family of Barbary Apes. This is the last family of this species in the entire country, and they're kept pretty secure for their safety.
Do not strike off Las Vegas from the list as a family vacation destination just too easily. The place proves it has much to offer to those who are willing to look beyond the gleaming hotels and glitzy night-life.
