A hiking vacation is the best way to have a thrilling and memorable vacation at the same time. You can either go alone or bring your family with you. Either way you will definitely enjoy it.
Hiking vacations do offer a range of adventure that differs in each hike you take. It allows you to take in the wonderful scenery and get in touch with Mother Nature.
Picking The Hiking Location
When looking for the ideal hiking spot, you have an assortment of locations to choose from. You can decide to hike through a certain part of the woods or go on a hiking trail that has been hiked on by hiking enthusiasts. There are woods that have cleared trails which have been used as a walking trail.
You can also go and look for an uncleared trail in the woods for a more adventurous hike. However, if this is the route you want to take, be sure that you have informed a relative or a friend of your plans, such as location and time, in case you do get lost. You are sure to have a great experience whichever trail you do take in the end.
Pack Your Bags
Be sure that you take very important and necessary items with you if you do plan to take a hiking vacation. On the other hand, do not overburden your load since you do have to carry all of it on your back.
Use the weather as your reference for the appropriate hiking clothes. If it is cold then you should wear thick layered clothes while if it is warm you should wear thin layered clothes. Don't forget your emergency blanket.
Be sure that you bring along matches (ideally in a waterproof bag) to light a fire and some light snacks. Snacks are really important to avoid hunger or light headedness during your hike.
Bring lots of water. Dehydration can occur during hiking, and taking frequent stops to drink water keeps you hydrated. Plain old water is the best drink during hiking so keep those sodas and sweet drinks at home.
Take your camera with you. Wonderful scenery and wildlife abound especially in unmarked trails. You can take pictures or videos of these as you go along your path. Later, after you are well-rested and in the comfort of your own home, you can have the luxury of looking at the photos or videos you took to remind you of the fun you had.
Bring a smaller, lightweight microfiber drying towel to dry your hair, body, or camera and other gear when things get wet. Avoid a large cotton towel, as they tend to be bulky and very heavy when wet, and stay wet in your backpack for days.
The Hiking Novice
If this is your first time to try out hiking, better take things slowly. Ask a friend who has had experience in hiking to go with you for a short hike over the weekend. Not only will you have company but you can ask for some tips on the do's and don'ts of hiking based on personal experience. You can also ask other hikers for their share of tips.
Once you get the hang of hiking, you might wonder why it took you a long time to get started.
