Traveling a snowy path is a very dangerous thing to do. There are a lot of things that could happen on that mountain. A short lived novelty sled was introduced in Boston during 1905 called American Motor Sleigh. It was originally designed to travel on snow. The body consisted of a sleigh body frame has a engine mounted on it. It also has a system consisted of shafts as well as runners. Although it was considered a cool and interesting machine, the sales did not meet expectations and productions were ceased in 1906.

1909 saw Russians produce the Aerosani. This was predominately used by the soviets against the Germans during world war two. It was also convenient for Russia had cold environment and its thudras were harsh. Many have debated calling this one as an snowmobile though, as it does not uses treads to travel.
