Who doesn't love the cuddly, loveable images of teddy bears? Now, if you want to make your personal checks a little more personable, you can use the delightful little bears to spruce up your checks and bring a touch of personality to them.

Although the teddy bear might be a classic toy today and loved by all, he really hasn't been around as long as it might feel like he has. The teddy as we know him today was developed in the beginning of the 20th century and was named after Theodore Roosevelt.

So how did the dearly loved little guy get his name from one of the much-loved presidents in the history of our country?

According to history, President Roosevelt was hunting bears in Mississippi in 1902 with the governor when one of the president's attendants had an American Black Bear chased by some hounds and then clubbed and tied him to a willow tree. When the president came over, they recommended to him that he shoot the bear but he declined. Still, he thought that the bear best be killed because it was the humanitarian thing to do. This became the theme of a political cartoon in the Washington Post.

A toy creator saw the cartoon and created a toy bear cub which he stuffed and placed in his window. He called it "Teddy's bear", also sending one to the president. By 1906 manufacturers all over the world were making the "Roosevelt Bears" and everybody wanted to have one. President Roosevelt even used one himself as his mascot in his bid for re-election.

In the beginning, the teddy bears looked like real bears. However, they eventually became a little more cuddly and loveable looking. Today, they're more soft and plush than they are realistic. Since his inception, the teddy bear bas become an icon and has been celebrated in song, dance, film, cartoons, and commercials. The older teddy bears are collector items and while you can find them in figurines and made out of everything from paper mache to expensive porcelain, it is the soft, plush variety that remains the most beloved.

There are quite a few different kinds of Teddy Bear checks to select from and all of them are just as cute and cuddly as the teddies. You might not be able to squeeze these, but they will lighten up your checkbook.
