Exploring Suwannee River Campground Locations

By Elsa English

When looking for a campground on the banks of a river, it can often be difficult to find one with just the right amount of sun and shade. The Suwannee River Campground at the Suwannee State Park in Northern Florida is an exception. There is another nearby campground and music park with riverbank camp sites which host live music, music festivals, an RV park, meeting space and a country store.

While mostly focused on camping and entertainment, the area is also historic. Most of the longstanding mounds of destroyed earth have been in the area since the Civil War when it was used as a bunk against enemy weapons. It is also easy to discover other aspects of the past on the many different hiking trails found in the park.

If looking for activities at a local game room, golf course or swimming pool, then the Music Park may be a better option. Whereas, when looking to hike different trails, the State park may be a better choice. The parks are also close enough that individuals can enjoy both on a single visit regardless as to the location of a base camp.

Whether a dedicated visit or passing through the area, a visit to Suwanee State Park can often be a fun one. The park offers daily, weekly, weekend and festival camping. It is always good to call ahead for availability and reservations as the campground can fill up quickly and is also home to several music festivals throughout the year.

A variety of amenities and features for singles, couples, families and groups are available on-site. These include cabins, a fully functioning campground and a special camping area dedicated to youth and youth based events. Activities inside the park include birding, boat ramps, canoeing, paddle boats, fishing spots and an area for family reunions and other gatherings.

Several music festivals occur at the Suwanee River Music Park and Campground each year. This park is a one-of-a-kind music park and premier campground on the banks of the Suwanee River. Visitors to the area may also want to note that this park offers live music during the week at the Music Hall as well as an amphitheater in addition to the many annual events which take place at the park.

Camping out in this area can make for a great family vacation. This is because many of the campgrounds offer additional activities for children such as fishing, golf, mini-golf, paddleboats and swimming. While some campgrounds offer a more natural approach, others offer swimming pools, tennis courts and other like games played on courts rather than in nature.

A good way to determine the best places to stay whether visiting the area for the first time, or a return visit, is to research any lodging of interest online before making a reservation. Visiting other locations while spending time in the area can provide insight as to whether to return to the same campground, or if another may be more convenient.
